The Real Hero.

A Ride for Everyday Heroes

The Hero of the North was created to celebrate the everyday heroes who make our lives and communities better.

Unlike the Hell and Heck of the North, the Hero Ride was never about racing, finishing times or taking on the most difficult terrain. It was designed to bring people together for a fun, relaxed and welcoming cycling experience.

Our previous edition featured an untimed 35-kilometre ride open to riders of all levels and abilities, using any type of bicycle in good working order.

The Future of the Hero Ride

There is currently no upcoming Hero of the North scheduled.

We would love to bring this special ride back one day, but we do not have a date or any confirmed event information to share right now.

If and when the Hero Ride returns, we want it to remain true to its original purpose: celebrating the people who help others, welcoming riders of every ability and using bicycles to create something positive within our community.

The Real Hero Project

A portion of the proceeds from previous Hero Rides supported our Real Hero project, an initiative created to help children in need gain access to bicycles, helmets and cycling equipment.

At the heart of the project is The Real Hero, a strong, brave and compassionate lioness who helps others and does extraordinary things in her community.

The idea began with a simple question:

“What would a champion do?”

That question can be powerful in sport, but life asks us to make important decisions far beyond competition.

Over time, the question evolved:

“What would The Real Hero do?”

What would she do when someone needed help?

How would she use her time and energy?

Would she choose what was easy, or what was right?

How would she build a meaningful life and make her community better?

The Real Hero represents courage, kindness, leadership and living with purpose. She is someone who can guide and inspire children while reminding all of us that heroism is not about winning races or standing on podiums.

It is about how we treat people, how we respond when someone needs us and what we choose to contribute.

Someone to Guide You

Someone to look up to.

Someone who inspires you to help others.

Someone whose courage puts a smile on your face.

Someone who reminds you that anyone can be a hero.

The Hero Ride may be resting for now, but its purpose remains very much alive.

We hope there will come a day when we can gather again, ride together and celebrate the everyday heroes all around us.
